        Name: Keru
        Are you over 18?: Yes!
Contact: reunite @ Plurk, journal PM
        Other characters, if any: N/A

      « CHARACTER INFORMATION »

        Character: Sougo Ousaka
        Canon: IDOLiSH7
Canon point: End of part 4
        OU or AU?: CRAU (Prismatica)
        Age: ~22
        Species: Human

AU clarification: Sougo's core personality hasn't undergone any major changes, and he's physically exactly the same as canon. The main differences are:

        • With more time to develop as a composer, he has a whole library of new songs. He's broadened his work and gained more experience than he had in canon, learning more about audio editing and recording in addition to simply composing. Basically, he can mix songs on his own! Provided that he has the equipment, he's a one man music studio.
        • Sougo was able to forge deeper relationships with many people, which he was afraid to do early in canon. He's gone through canon changes since then and become more open, but he also learned to be a little more honest with himself and pushed himself to express his feelings more during his time in Prismatica. He's much closer to his canonmate Ryuunosuke Tsunashi than he was in canon, for example, and has memories of other CRAU characters from Prismatica. He's still Mr. Repression with a capital R, but he's making progress!
        • Due to the nature of the setting, he's become more comfortable with the topic of intimacy than he was in canon. While he's still reserved and private by nature, he's not quite as skittish around others and has gradually become less adamant about protecting his idol image in an environment that doesn't require it.

Disposition: Gentle and polite to friends and strangers alike, Sougo is the earnest and sincere fifth member of the popular idol group IDOLiSH7. Kind and proper-mannered, he's the type that people naturally rely on, and tends to look like he doesn't have many troubles or hardships. However, although he seems to be good at nearly everything without trying, he's actually an extremely hard worker and has a fear of making mistakes and troubling others. He's a very "by the books" type of person, and can be quite strict when it comes to being proper and following the rules.

Though generally reserved, Sougo's regard for others is unmatched. He's the type to do thankless tasks or go to any length to assist someone, but due to always thinking of others above himself, he has trouble opening up and talking about his own feelings. On the surface, this makes him seem like an extremely unselfish person – and he is, for the most part. His concern for others may be genuine, but it's multi-faceted in the sense that it doubles back around to his own self-image. Whether he fully realizes it or not, one of the reasons he prioritizes politeness is because he has a deep-rooted fear of causing trouble for others due to his upbringing. In his elite family, time was valued above all else since his relatives could move hundreds of millions of funds in a single hour. As such, he was told that whatever he needed to say had to be equivalent to that value, and was often neglected as a result. Rather than express his own feelings, he was expected to live up to his family's expectations, and raised to respect order and follow rules at all costs.

Nearly all of Sougo's negative traits stem from his repressed emotions – a direct result of trying to be the perfect heir of the Ousaka family, proper and unruffled. With not causing trouble for others being his main priority, his own desires take a back seat, which causes conflict between him and his easygoing unitmate Tamaki. Not admitting his hardships leads to him internalizing and repressing all of his struggles, and as expected, bottling his stress only makes it build up to a dangerous point that actually does trouble people around him. In addition to this, Sougo is a worrier by nature, and is actually quite high-strung and anxious despite his composed exterior. As such, he often stresses a great deal about things in his head, though he's gotten better about relying on others over the course of the main story. Secretly, he's the type to worry about others' opinions of him, and it's later revealed that his low self-confidence used to be even more severe – he hated himself for much of his life, and only recently learned to like himself little by little through music. Struggling to find his identity, he desperately wants to prove that the music he loves is worthy of respect.

However, when Sougo is drunk, all of his true feelings quickly come to the surface. His repressed emotions come spilling out at an alarming rate, and he quickly becomes spoiled and clingy. This indicates that all of these emotions are still present within Sougo – he wants to be loved and spoiled the way he never was in his youth, and doesn't hesitate to be selfish in a way he never is when sober. Being drunk also completely removes his filter, and he suddenly becomes vocal about all of his feelings, including his insecurities, worries, and loneliness. Even outside of drinking, a trait of Sougo's that isn't as well known to the public is that he has a very clear switch, and once he becomes angry, he quickly becomes extremely intense and menacing... but for the most part, he's nothing but pleasant. Even if, you know, he's prone to flipping between ordinary and extreme tendencies without much middle ground. It's all part of his charm (?).

On the bright side, through his recent endeavors in composing music (and being an idol in general), Sougo has become much more in tune with himself and his feelings. He's finally found an outlet to express what he loves without shame, and as a result, he's learned to open his heart to not only others, but himself as well.

Under pressure: Sougo is a bit of a unique case, both very strong-willed and also weak under pressure. On the surface, Sougo's level-headed nature makes him a great problem solver, and while he isn't a natural leader type, he's quite good at navigating his way through challenging situations. In other words, he's fairly adaptable, especially because he's been in a similar world before!

On the other hand, even after lots of canon growth, Sougo is still prone to fretting internally and jumping from 0 to 100 in a matter of moments. When making split second decisions, his emotions tend to override his logic and lead him to making poor choices, like... slamming someone over the head with a computer or drilling a locked door off its hinges, for instance. His tendency to push himself too hard and not let anyone know when his stress has reached a critical point has led to him literally collapsing in the past, and in the case of more serious events, there's a good chance he'll close himself off rather than jump headfirst into danger.

The presence of others – especially his canonmates – will be the number one driving force to push him out of his shell. While Sougo isn't exactly the greatest at caring for himself, as mentioned above, his willingness to go to any lengths for others will do him well in a setting like this. He has a hard time saying no when people ask things of him, which leads to him bending over backwards to help people out, but it's his inherently kind nature that will benefit him the most. While he initially felt uncomfortable with even simple intimacy like holding hands or hugging, he became more accustomed to the touch of others during his time in Prismatica. He still isn't an incredibly affectionate person by nature (that's what happens when you raise your kids as business tools instead of loving them properly, dad), but he'll be very empathetic toward unwilling Gembonded and will offer to help them Sync in a way that they feel comfortable with. Thanks to being attentive and good at reading others, Sougo is a good person to count on if you need someone to gently lend an ear!

Condition upon arrival: Perfect health, springy hair sprout and all!

Abilities: As a normal human, Sougo doesn't have any supernatural powers. However, as far as abilities go, Sougo is known as a bit of an all-rounder. He's the most balanced performer in his idol group, skilled in the three core areas of singing, dancing, and performing without being exceptional in any one area.

The same general principal also applies to his skills outside of being an idol: he's generally good at nearly everything he tries (the key word being nearly), but doesn't particularly stand out in any one area outside of writing music.

Additionally, since Sougo was raised from birth to succeed his father's company (a world famous and highly influential corporation in Japan), he was taught from an extremely young age to deal with complicated business matters and turn profits. As a result, while he normally doesn't rely on these tactics, he can be calculating when the time calls for it and knows how to flawlessly turn a situation in his favour. Thankfully, he really only uses it when he's in an extreme pinch or doing something to benefit his unit as a whole (or playing a really dirty game of chess).

...And if it counts, he also has the staggering ability to turn nearly any object in his vicinity into a weapon, whether it's a potato peeler or a computer.
